During this time of working from home (starting March 2020), I have the privilege of delivering laptops to adult immigrants learning English from home. As long as I'm in their driveway to bring the educational gear anyway, I offer a few other basic essentials: soap, TP, eggs, rice, bananas, homemade donated masks. They must feel loved by this small gesture because they smile and sometimes jump up and down. I'm so grateful to share.
After helping my student through the citizenship process, she was eager to see her family in the refugee camp where she lived after escaping persecution in Burma. With the help of other generous supporters, I was able to purchase her plane ticket and together we traveled to Thailand where she was able to see her four children, eleven grandchildren, three great-grand children and one brother for the first time in 13 years.
In honor of Aunt Nancy, I am volunteering tomorrow to help immigrants complete their paperwork to apply for citizenship. Update: assisted two individuals from Afghanistan and two from Burma to complete their applications.
This is one of 30 butterfly coins which were distributed in honor of our mother's 80th birthday party, June 9, 2019. Nancy lives her life thinking of others - an extra meal for a friend who is sick, a quick phone call to check in on someone's day, hours volunteering at a soup kitchen or for church. Help us spread her lifetime of integrity, kindness, and tolerance throughout the world with these coins!
