Coin Stories

Wow...the butterfly is emerging from its cocoon....a destiny of global giving. A big decision indeed on what to be the first path of a beautiful fledging butterfly...trusting it to find its way.

While our project is in its infancy, I thought I'd post this Example Coin with some fake story notes so you can see how the animated map works. Here's my first story note.

Someone paid for my lunch in the Wendy's drive-thru in Lakeway, TX, when I was visited my family there. Taking coin back to SF and will figure out what this is all about. Thanks!

On business trip to NYC... gave my barista a rather large cash tip along with the coin. She couldn't stop smiling. :)

Gave the coin and a twenty dollar bill to this dude who needed it outside Slicks. He promised to pay it forward in his own time and way.

This sort of thing is normally outside of my comfort zone. But with the coin in my pocket, I was actively looking for an opportunity to help someone โ€“ and damn if it didn't feel great.

Just received my 10 coins today. This one Iโ€™m taking with me while Christmas shopping. I pray I can have an opportunity to help someone today and pass it on. D ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Dennis planned on using this coin tonight when he was out Christmas shopping... what he didnโ€™t know was he was getting surprised with a hunting trip instead of going shopping. He is truly a one of a kind man with a heart of gold. So instead of giving the coin to someone who he thought needed help he did the reverse and gave it to us, the ones that gave him a hunting trip. Iโ€™m excited to see the journey of this coin and whoโ€™s lives it touches!

Wow!!! What an amazing evening. This will definitely be a first on Butterfly Coins. This is my story. As I stated earlier I was supposed to be going with my dear friend of 19yrs Rodney shopping (or so I thought) while at his house waiting to leave, a know on the door. Rodney opens the door greets a man who quickly entered followed by a cameraman lights and cameras on. He walks to me as I stood to introduce myself, when he proceeds to tell me his name Dave Waston. Host and TV personality of the show The Journey. Itโ€™s an outdoor sporting show which highlights the selfless lives others have given. He proceeds to tell me I had been nominated and selected as one of his guests, for an all expenses paid hunting adventure in Oklahoma. I realize this evening I was the very person who โ€œreceived โ€œ a butterfly coin, so to speak. By my dear friends Rodney and Libby in nominating myself to be selected. It was then I knew that the very coin I was carrying has in a way selected ME to be the recipient of an incredible random act of kindness. I therefore ceremonially gifted my first coin to Rodney and Libby. Two very deserving wonderful people. Although they have already helped me. I know the coin they now carry will find its was onto someone else very soon. So this was In affect a reversal act of kindness. So cool ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Watch for me soon on the outdoor channel show The Journey for the rest of my story

When I was in Sandpoint, I dropped a $100 bill on theSandpoint, ID, USA floor at the Chevron gas station. After I had left, I looked in my pockets and realized I was missing $100 so I raced back to the gas station and Richard the cashier had told me that some kid had turned it in. I asked Richard to track down that kid for me so I could thank him for turning in my money, and I told my boss at Talus Rock Retreat about what had just happened and how we should put the kid in the newspaper for his good deed. My boss handed me a Butterfly Coin and told me to pass it on...sadly Richard the cashier never saw the kid again and I could not give the kid the Butterfly Coin! So now I have this Butterfly Coin and Im just waiting for the right person to pass it off to.

On Amtrak spreading the word of love, kindness and compassion. This coin is going to my newest friend Rebecca! Fly on and do good :)

I just met Bruce and Selkirk on Amtrak as we go rolling through the snowy fields of North Dakota in The sunshine. Iโ€™m grateful to be joining them in this kindness revolution because our world could change in beautiful ways if we treat each other compassionately. Letโ€™s celebrate that we come from all backgrounds and walks of life, and at the fundamental level we are all the same, in this together. Peace to all beings.

This is the start of this coin. This is to be given away for Christmas to family and friends or to some person that I will do a good deed for.. Then they will tell their story. Thanks to Guy Ellis in Nacogdoches for starting this coin.

Just received my first coin. I can't wait to give it to someone.

Bought some stamps for the gentleman in line behind me at the post office. Take flight, little coin, and do some good in the world.

Received this coin at the post office in Huron, oh! Someone so generously paid for a stamp that was going to France. My girls and I will be paying it forward to someone else soon.

Thank you for your loyalty and friendship. You inspire me! Do good and fly on, my friend!

Started Here.

Made our day!!!! Thank you so much for your generosity, kindness and hearts of gold:) If I had a gold butterfly coin you would be the recipient...I do have this brass one with much gratitude and thanks for everything that you have done and continue to do! Surprise food in a veterinary clinic is one of best things ever. We give you a heartfelt (and tummyfelt) Thank you. Also the efforts of reaching out, funding, and helping to find a solution for the stray animals of our Community. You are appreciated very very much! Continue to do good and fly on my friends!

In Austin, texas :)

I was given this coin by Heather Petersen, whose generosity and love for helping and inspiring others is just the tip of the 'coin' for this amazing woman. Fly on!

A young gentleman out on the streets was in the midst of lending a hand to his acquaintance in caring for his dog. Upon pettin' his friend's dog, the gentleman asked for spare change. I didn't have cash on me, but I offered a couple of cigarettes for him & his friend. They kindly accepted and offered me this token of gratitude.

What a wonderful concept!

I purchased 10 coins to gift this Christmas. This is 1 of 2 going to my boyfriends mom, Marilyn.

Born in Austin making its way to Houston, TX

My roommate just gave me this he helped me get off the street. I am so great ful and can not wait to pass it on. He showed me what true friendship is....

In my pocket......

This coin is in my pocket, waiting for the right opportunity to release it along with a random act of kindness, hoping to track it as people pay it forward. I'll update it's story as soon as it's been released!

I'm excited to follow all 105 coins originating in Hamburg, Iowa.

Gave this coin as a gift to a sweet friend......hoping she spreads kindness with it.....fly on!

Purchased coins because my friend, Kaori, started this with her husband. One of their missions is "to perform large, publicly-visible random acts of kindness with a significant portion of their profits" and I like that.

I am shipping this coin as a Christmas gift to my family in NY.
Make a trip big :)

Initial purchase as a Christmas gift for Iain from dad...

In my pocket.....I set this butterfly free in the mall, while taking my mom Christmas shopping. Bought a random stranger breakfast. I think it made her morning! Pay it forward, and fly on.

This coin and idea all started with you. 7 in total that I have given out this holiday sesson. Each one with their own journey. Your generosity and the way you look at the world is inspiring. You're warm and a light to many people who meet you. You've inspired me to change the world and these 7 coins will do just that. It's no coincidence that I have started with 7 coins and they will forever be out there inspiring the next person. It all started with you. Take this coin and pass it on. Keep this code so you can look back and see the impact you've had on people. And always remember this.. It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world.

Now its in my pocket! Thank you so much for paying it forward <3

I bought and made my boss a margarita and gave him the coin to take to the city with him (better chance to spread its wings as Iโ€™m living in a very small town!)
